In short: When a local minister is found with bleeding ears and a ruptured eardrum, the investigation uncovers a web of falsified evidence and caste-based violence. This 2024 Tamil thriller follows a convict whose parole leads to a calculated vengeance spanning fourteen years of imprisonment and a hidden, high-decibel assassination.

The 2024 Tamil-language action thriller Siren, directed by Antony Bhagyaraj, follows Thilagavarman, a former ambulance driver turned convict. After serving 14 years in prison, Thilagan is granted parole to visit his daughter, Malar, and his dying father in Kanchipuram. However, his return coincides with a series of violent deaths, including the assassination of a local minister, Manickam Thangam.

The film's central mystery involves a pathologist's discovery that Manickam died from an eardrum blast, caused by high-decibel noise generated by metal-like substances. While investigators initially focus on a stabbing by an aide named Manikandan, the truth is far more complex. It is eventually revealed that Thilagan orchestrated the minister's death and used a temple festival as a cover to kidnap and attack Inspector Nagalingam.

The narrative is rooted in a tragic backstory involving Thilagan's late wife, Jennifer, a deaf and mute nurse. Thilagan was originally imprisoned due to falsified evidence planted by Manickam and Anbu following a period of violence involving Thilagan's friend, Kathir. The film concludes with Thilagan witnessing Nagalingam's death in an ambulance, achieving a grim form of vengeance for Jennifer's death.

Despite its ambitious plot, the film received poor critical reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 0% positive rating from five critics, with an average score of 5/10. Critics from The Indian Express and India Today criticized the film for logical errors, convenient writing, and reliance on standard revenge drama tropes.
