The first woman to lead the White House operations
In short: From the daughter of a legendary sportscaster to the architect of modern Republican victories, Susie Wiles has mastered the art of political maneuvering. Now, as the first female White House Chief of Staff, she stands at the center of the most powerful administration in America.
Susie Wiles’s ascent to the White House is defined by a career spent navigating the highest echelons of Republican politics. Born in 1957 to professional football player and sportscaster Pat Summerall, Wiles began her political journey in 1978, working for Representative Jack Kemp. Her early career saw her embedded in the inner workings of the Reagan administration, serving in the White House Office of Scheduling and Advance during his 1980 campaign and later working for Secretary of Labor Raymond J. Donovan.
Her expertise lies in the mechanics of campaign management and strategic communications. Wiles played a pivotal role in Donald Trump’s 2016 victory, serving as his Florida campaign chairwoman and later his Florida campaign manager. She was instrumental in implementing an absentee ballot program that secured vital votes following Hurricane Matthew. Her influence extended to the 2018 Florida gubernatorial race, where she led Ron DeSantis’s campaign, and even reached international borders as a consultant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s 2020 legislative election campaign.
As Chief of Staff, Wiles oversees a complex apparatus. Her leadership has already been marked by significant actions, including the negotiation of a prisoner exchange between the United States and Russia in February 202<0xA0>25 involving Alexander Vinnik and Marc Fogel. While her career has been marked by high-stakes political shifts—including managing Trump’s fundraising through Save America and navigating internal party feuds—she remains a central figure in the administration's structural and personnel decisions.
