In short: Adarsh Gourav’s path to stardom was paved with rejection. After failing to make it on two major singing shows, he pivoted from music to a role that would eventually earn him international acclaim and a reputation for nuanced, soulful performances in both Indian and English-language cinema.

Adarsh Gourav’s journey began in the music scene of Mumbai. Even though he spent nine years studying Hindustani classical music, his initial career path was hindered by failures in 2003 and 2007 at L'il Champs and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. However, his musical background persisted as he performed with college bands like Steepsky and Oak Island, the latter of which was featured on MTV Indies-Never Hide Sounds.

His transition to acting was almost accidental. In 2007, while performing at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, he was spotted and asked to try acting—an opportunity he accepted primarily because he was excited to appear on television. This led to his first role at age 14 as the young Shahrukh Khan in the drama film My Name Is Khan (2010).

Gourav spent years refining his craft, studying at The Drama School Mumbai in 2016 and working with notable figures like Anurag Kashyap and Deepa Mehta. His international breakthrough came in 2021 with the Netflix film The White Tiger. His portrayal of Balram Halwai was described by critics as a 'small marvel,' earning him nominations for a BAFTA Award and an Independent Spirit Award.

Recently, Gourav has continued to diversify his portfolio. Critics highlighted his major influence on the plot of the 2023 coming-of-age movie Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, in which he played a lead role. He also took on a major leading role in the 2026 survival thriller Tu Yaa Main, where he played a Mumbai rapper in a high-stakes situation involving a crocodile in a Goa resort.
