The Voice Actor Who Stepped Into the Shoes of Hollywood Legends
In short: André Sogliuzzo has built a career as the ultimate vocal chameleon, seamlessly replacing icons like Al Pacino and Michael Jeter. From the swashbuckling Puss in Boots to the gritty Tony Montana, Sogliuzzo has spent decades defining the voices behind some of gaming and animation’s most recognizable characters.
Born in New York City in 1966, André Sogliuzzo emerged as a vital force in the voice acting industry, particularly as a master of continuity. His ability to inhabit established roles is perhaps best illustrated by his work on the 2004 film The Polar Express. After the death of actor Michael Jeter, Sogliuzzo was hired by director Robert Zemeckis to record the remaining dialogue for the characters Smokey and Steamer. He went further, redubbing much of Jeter's existing audio to ensure the performance remained consistent throughout the motion capture production.
Sogliuzzo’s talent for mimicry and character work earned him the trust of major stars. In 2006, when Al Pacino declined to voice Tony Montana for the video game Scarface: The World Is Yours—citing concerns that his own voice had changed too much since the 1983 film—he personally handpicked Sogliuzzo to take over the role. This level of professional endorsement highlights Sogliuzzo's precision, a skill he also applied to the Shrek franchise. Between 2004 and 2015, he served as the primary replacement for Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots, handling the character's voice for commercials, DreamworksTV content, and various video games.
Beyond these high-profile replacements, Sogliuzzo has maintained a prolific presence in gaming since the early 2000s. His credits include iconic titles such as Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and the Spyro series, where he began voicing Sparx in 2000. Whether providing voices for Activision’s Skylanders series or stepping into the shoes of Lord Farquaad, Sogliuzzo has become a cornerstone of modern voice performance, bridging the gap between original cinematic portrayals and the interactive demands of the gaming world.
