In short: After revealing his secret identity, Matt Murdock faces the ultimate consequence: a prison cell. While the hero is sidelined, the criminal underworld shifts. This final season of Daredevil: Born Again explores a world where the mask is off, the Kingpin is in exile, and the stakes are stripped back to the bone.

Following the events of season two, where Matt Murdock publicly revealed his identity as Daredevil and was subsequently arrested, the third and final season takes a 'back-to-basics' approach. Showrunner Dario Scardapane intends to mirror the street-level tone of Frank Miller's original comics. Rather than trying to 'buy back' Murdock's secret identity, the narrative embraces his incarceration. The season draws heavy inspiration from the 2006 comic arc 'The Devil in Cell-Block D,' focusing on a lawyer navigating the justice system to pay for his own vigilante crimes.

The power vacuum left by Wilson Fisk—who lost his influence as mayor and crime lord—is filled by new threats and shifting alliances. While Fisk remains in exile, the series introduces new antagonists like Heather Glenn, who adopts the mantle of Muse. This character arc is a continuation of a storyline from the first season, now featuring significant character development. Additionally, the season features Benjamin 'Dex' Poindexter (Bullseye) as a 'killer for hire,' a role more aligned with his original comic book depiction.

The season also serves as a massive expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Netflix legacy. It integrates a wide cast of returning characters, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Elektra Natchios. Specifically, it explores Cage's relationship with his daughter Danielle and his international work for the CIA-linked Mr. Charles. Scheduled to premiere in March 2027 on Disney+, the eight-episode finale marks the end of the series' journey into the 'world' of the original Netflix television shows.

Production faced notable shifts; showrunner Dario Scardapane's contract was not renewed in September 2026 during post-production, despite the season being in its final stages. Despite these behind-the-scenes changes, the creative team remains committed to a 'stripped-down' narrative that avoids 'bizarro' escalations, such as making Fisk a national leader, choosing instead to focus on the gritty reality of a fallen crime lord rebuilding from nothing.
