A government task force exists to police the boundary of reality
In short: In the world of Digimon Data Squad, the line between our world and the digital realm is no longer just a metaphor. A specialized government organization, DATS, was established to manage the peace between these dimensions, forcibly transporting rogue entities back to their home world.
The Digital Accident Tactics Squad (DATS) serves as the primary authority for maintaining the equilibrium between the Real World and the Digital World. Unlike previous iterations of the franchise, this series centers on a government-sanctioned effort to manage Digimon, specifically focusing on transporting them back to their native dimension to prevent cross-world interference. The narrative explores the consequences of human interference with technology. The conflict is driven by the actions of scientist Akihiro Kurata, who gained government support to oppose all Digimon species by labeling them a threat to humanity. The organization includes an 18-year-old field agent named Yoshi who partners with Lalamon. Additionally, the series features a young boy named Keenan who was raised as a semi-feral child. This boy grew up with a deep prejudice against humans after being raised by a Frigimon.
This ideological stance eventually led to a catastrophic merger of the two worlds. The series highlights the tension between technological progress and the unintended consequences of creating digital life, culminating in a confrontation with King Drasil (Yggdrasil), the supreme ruler of the Digital World who sought to destroy humanity to protect his own realm. A scientist named Akihiro Kurata used a bomb to merge the two dimensions. This action forced Marcus to face King Drasil to save his father. His father, Spencer, was actually trapped in the digital realm for ten years.
The team is led by Commander Richard Sampson and includes diverse members like Marcus, a 14-year-old street fighter, and Thomas H. Norstein, a 14-year-old teenage genius. While Marcus relies on physical strength and his partner Agumon, Thomas utilizes carefully planned strategies and his partner Gaomon. The series also features unique subspecies of Digimon, such as the great horned owl-themed Falcomon and the kuda-gitsune-themed Kudamon, illustrating the varied biological and digital diversity of the species. The show features a small three-fingered dinosaur-themed Digimon with red training bracers. Another partner is a pawn-themed Digimon that remains silent. Miki and Megumi both name the specific attacks for their respective partners.
