A silent French comedy about a grizzly bear and his chaotic, mischievous roommates
In short: In the Nutty Hill National Forest, a homebody grizzly bear named Grizzy seeks only to relax and enjoy his chocolate spread. His peace is constantly shattered by a pack of blue-gray lemmings, leading to high-speed, slapstick battles that span the globe and even venture into the realm of time travel.
Produced by Studio Hari, Grizzy & the Lemmings is a silent, three-dimensional animated series that relies on gibberish rather than dialogue to convey its humor. The show centers on Grizzy, a two-meter-tall bear who occupies a forest ranger's cabin, and a dozen mischievous lemmings who share the space. Their conflict is fueled by a mutual desire for the cabin's amenities, particularly a chocolate spread called Yummy XL, and often involves high-tech gadgets or magical objects.
The series debuted internationally in 2016 and has since expanded significantly. While the first two seasons focused on the cabin in Canada, the show evolved into the World Tour format for seasons three and four, taking the characters to locations like Antarctica, the African desert, and the highlands of Scotland. Future installments, specifically seasons five and six, are set to explore a time-travel theme, visiting eras ranging from the Jurassic period to the Wild West.
Despite their constant bickering, the characters occasionally show unexpected depth, such as when Grizzy displays sympathy for the lemmings during an illness. The show's global reach is extensive, airing on networks like Cartoon Network and Boomerang across countries including France, India, and the United States. Beyond the television series, the franchise has expanded into other media, with a feature-length film currently in development and a video game titled Grizzy & the Lemmings: Crazy Party released in 2026.
The show's production involves meticulous design, with Bertrand Gatignol responsible for character aesthetics and Édouard Cellura for the sets. Its success has been recognized critically, winning a Laurier in the youth animation category in 2018. Whether they are engaging in high-speed highway chases or navigating the challenges of ancient civilizations, Grizzy and the lemmings remain locked in a perpetual, comically destructive struggle for dominance over their shared environment.
