In short: When a tragic car accident leads to a wrongful murder conviction, an innocent woman is sent to prison. Stripped of her freedom and separated from her newborn son, she embarks on a calculated path of retribution against the stepsister who orchestrated her downfall and stole her life.

Ice Adonis, also titled Yellow Boots, captivated audiences during its 2012 broadcast on the cable network tvN. The series follows the life of Yeon-hwa, whose world collapses when her stepsister, Yoo-ra, accidentally kills Yoon-jae’s sister in a hit-and-run. To escape accountability, Yoo-ra leverages her father’s influence as a judge and bribes a police officer to frame Yeon-hwa for the crime. This deception results in a three-year prison sentence, during which Yeon-hwa discovers she is pregnant with Yoon-jae’s child.

The narrative intensifies as Yeon-hwa is forced to surrender her son, Tae-yang, to an orphanage at eighteen months old. Yoo-ra, desperate to maintain her marriage to Yoon-jae, discovers the child’s location and maliciously swaps his identity, sending him to an unsuspecting adoptive family. Upon her early release from prison, Yeon-hwa finds her son missing and begins a relentless campaign to expose the truth. Her journey involves infiltrating J Cosmetics, where she rises to the position of vice president and earns the support of the chairwoman, Julia, who has her own history of being betrayed.

The show’s complexity lies in its web of shifting alliances and hidden motives. While Yeon-hwa finds an ally in Kang-wook, who supports her both during and after her incarceration, she must navigate the persistent interference of those who framed her. The series resonated deeply with viewers, topping cable ratings for 18 straight weeks. This success prompted the network to extend the original 100-episode run by eight additional installments, eventually leading to international distribution across markets including Japan, the Philippines, and Singapore.
