A makeup artist transforms into a vengeful force against her family's ruthless killer
In short: In the 2022 South Korean series Vengeance of the Bride, a naive makeup artist discovers the truth about her past. After learning that the powerful Kang Baek-san murdered her family to seize their wealth, she infiltrates his household as a daughter-in-law to execute a cold, calculated plan of retribution.
The narrative centers on Eun Seo-yeon, who begins the story as an unsuspecting makeup artist. Her life shifts dramatically when she uncovers the dark history of Kang Baek-san, the heartless antagonist who destroyed her family to steal their company. Driven by this revelation, she abandons her former innocence and pledges a vengeance described as being as sharp and relentless as a winter wind.
To dismantle Baek-san's world from within, Seo-yeon marries his son, Kang Tae-poong. This union places her directly in the path of the family's internal conflicts, including the jealousy of Baek-san's daughter, Kang Ba-da. Ba-da, a ruthless chaebol, is consumed by her own insecurities and an obsessive, dangerous love for Seo-yeon's childhood friend, Yoon San-deul. This volatile dynamic is further complicated by Baek-san's wife, Nam In-soon, and the reporter Hong Jo-yi, whose own jealousies and obsessions create additional obstacles for the protagonist.
At the heart of the drama is Seo-yeon's search for her biological mother, Jeong Mo-yeon, who suffers from amnesia. The series, which premiered on KBS2 on October 10, 2022, reunites writer Song Jeong-rim with actress Park Ha-na. As the plot unfolds, Baek-san's obsession with power and money drives him to commit increasingly heinous acts, even turning against his own children to protect his secrets. The show explores the heavy cost of such ambition, as Seo-yeon navigates a web of deception to reclaim her identity and exact justice for her lost family.
