In short: What happens when a century-old slapstick comedy meets the brutal reality of generational violence? Director S. S. Rajamouli reimagined a silent masterpiece as a tense, comedic drama where the ultimate goal is simple survival: stay inside the house, because the owners are waiting for you to step outside so they can kill you.

The film is a deliberate reimagining of the 1923 silent comedy 'Our Hospitality' by Buster Keaton. After discovering the original creators had passed away and the copyright had expired over 75 years ago, Rajamouli and co-writer S. S. Kanchi adapted the core premise into a Rayalaseema backdrop. They traded simple slapstick for a narrative defined by 'factional violence'—a regional history of violent feuds between prominent families. The story centers on Ramu, a man who inherits land in a village consumed by a blood feud. He unknowingly enters the home of his ancestral enemies, who have sworn to execute every male member of his lineage. The tension arises from a specific household tradition: the family strictly prohibits shedding blood within the home.

This creates a 'comedy of errors' where the antagonists must wait for Ramu to voluntarily exit the front gates before they can strike, while Ramu must use every trick in the book to remain indoors. Following a 2010 debut costing ₹120–140 million, this motion picture achieved profitability by securing a distributor portion exceeding ₹285 million. It served as a strategic 'recharge' for Rajamouli between massive projects, allowing him to experiment with a smaller budget and a non-star cast while still achieving significant reach, eventually being remade in five different languages.

Note: This production underwent five different language remakes, specifically in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, and Kannada.
