When a retired assassin tries to take a vacation, trouble inevitably follows him home
In short: Hutch Mansell, the lethal protagonist of 2021's Nobody, attempts to trade his violent life for a quiet family getaway in Wisconsin. But when a local amusement park turns out to be a front for a criminal syndicate, his promise to leave his past behind is shattered by explosive consequences.
In the 2025 action thriller Nobody 2, directed by Timo Tjahjanto, Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) finds that his attempt to reconnect with his family is thwarted by the criminal underbelly of Plummerville, Wisconsin. After a series of confrontations at a local amusement park, Hutch is forced to confront a drug and smuggling ring run by Lendina. The film explores the friction between Hutch's desire for domestic normalcy and the inescapable nature of his lethal expertise, a theme underscored by his handler, the Barber, who warns him that he cannot outrun his own identity.
The production journey for the sequel was extensive, spanning several years of development. Following the success of the 2021 original, writers Derek Kolstad and Aaron Rabin crafted a narrative that sees Hutch balancing his obligations to the Barber with his strained relationship with his wife, Becca (Connie Nielsen). Principal photography took place in Winnipeg between August 6 and September 26, 2024. The film features a returning cast including Christopher Lloyd and RZA, alongside new additions such as Sharon Stone and John Ortiz, marking Tjahjanto's English-language directorial debut.
Commercially, the film arrived in theaters on August 15, 2025, grossing $43 million worldwide against a $25 million budget. Critical reception was generally positive, with a 76% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While some reviewers noted the film's adherence to the established tone of the franchise, audiences polled by CinemaScore awarded it a B+ grade. The story concludes with the family surviving the chaos of the amusement park, ultimately finding a moment of peace as they watch a visual album of their vacation, though the path to that resolution required the total destruction of the park and its criminal occupants.
