In short: Before he became the definitive voice of Robin in Teen Titans, Scott Menville was a bass player in the Southern California thrash metal scene. His journey from a child prodigy in animation to a rock musician reveals a versatile career built on the art of mimicry.

Scott Menville's entry into the world of performance began in Malibu, California. His parents recognized his innate ability to mimic people and perform character voices early on, enrolling him in acting classes at just nine years old. His initial instruction proved effective soon after, as a 1979 Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo production provided his debut professional gig. By age 11, he secured a recurring role as Spanky in The Little Rascals, a project his father, animator and writer Chuck Menville, helped him audition for while working for Hanna-Barbera.

While his career in animation flourished, Menville maintained a distinct musical identity. While attending secondary school, he developed an interest in punk and started performing bass for regional thrash metal groups. The alternative rock group Boy Hits Car was established by him as a co-founder in 1993. The group released three albums together before Menville departed in 2006. This dual life as a musician and actor allowed him to navigate diverse media, from providing voices for major video games like Final Fantasy XII and Call of Duty: Black Ops II to appearing in live-action series like Full House and The Wonder Years.

Menville is perhaps most recognizable for his long-standing tenure as Robin in the Teen Titans franchise, a role he has maintained since 2003. His versatility is evidenced by his work across various genres: he took over the role of Fred Flintstone in The Flintstone Kids, voiced Jonny Quest, and even stepped into the role of Shaggy Rodgers in Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!, marking the first time the character was voiced by someone other than Casey Kasem. Today, he remains a staple of the industry, appearing frequently at comic book conventions and continuing to voice a wide array of characters in shows like Teen Titans Go! and Oddballs.
