How a young skunk and a wise panda defend their valley from dragon's wrath
In short: In this animated action-adventure, a ten-year-old skunk trains in martial arts under an eighty-year-old panda. Together with a quirky cast of valley animals, they must thwart a vengeful dragon and his army of ninja monkeys who seek to destroy their home after the dragon was banished by the heavens.
Skunk Fu! is an Irish-British animated series produced by Cartoon Saloon that blends martial arts action with fantasy and comedy. The narrative centers on the young protagonist, Skunk, who aspires to become a master. His training is overseen by Master Panda, the wise, elderly leader of the valley. While Skunk often attempts to bypass the rigors of his training, he consistently learns the value of his lessons through the consequences of his actions, ultimately proving his worth as a defender of his home.
The primary antagonist, Dragon, was once a golden-scaled friend of Panda. However, his arrogance led to a punishment from the heavens, resulting in his banishment to an icy prison. This exile transformed his appearance into a deep black and fueled a bitter, vengeful desire to destroy the valley residents, whom he blames for his downfall. Dragon commands Baboon and an army of ninja monkeys, who employ various dirty tricks to attack the valley, though they are repeatedly thwarted by the collective efforts of the animals.
The series features a diverse ensemble, including the inventive Rabbit, the graceful fighter Fox, and the dim-witted Pig, among others. Each character brings unique traits, such as Ox's ability to spot invisible enemies or the short-tempered nature of the Killer Bees. Since its premiere in 2007, the show has gained international reach, airing in multiple languages including Irish, French, Japanese, and Dutch. Despite its success and an IFTA award for Best Animation, plans for a feature film were eventually abandoned, and home media releases remained limited.
