In short: Translating the hand-drawn charm of a legendary comic strip into modern computer animation required a delicate touch. To honor the legacy of Charles M. Schulz, filmmakers rejected standard digital techniques, opting for a lower frame rate that captured the warmth and simplicity of the original drawings for a new generation.

Development of the project began in 2006, six years after the passing of the comic's creator, Charles M. Schulz. His son, Craig Schulz, spearheaded the initiative, insisting that the production remain under strict family oversight to preserve the integrity of his father's work. By 2012, 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios announced the film, with Steve Martino selected as director for his proven ability to maintain stylistic faithfulness in previous literary adaptations.

The animation team spent over a year studying the original strip to bridge the gap between 2D aesthetics and 3D pixel precision. They specifically chose to animate the characters on twos—a technique common in stop-motion—to avoid the fluid, overly polished look typical of modern CGI. This stylistic choice ensured that the subtle emotional cues, such as the simple dot of an eye, remained as expressive as they were in the original print medium.

The narrative mirrors the classic slice-of-life structure of the strip, interweaving Charlie Brown’s real-world struggles with his dog Snoopy’s imaginative World War I Flying Ace fantasies. While some critics debated whether the film successfully captured the strip's signature melancholy, it was widely praised for its wholesome appeal. The film grossed over $246 million worldwide, proving that the enduring themes of perseverance and honesty still resonate with modern audiences.

Despite its success, the film remains a standalone entry. Blue Sky Studios, which produced the feature, ceased operations in 2021. While a new project titled Snoopy Unleashed is currently in development for Apple TV, it is not a direct sequel to the 2015 production. The original film remains a unique testament to the enduring pop culture status of the Peanuts gang.
