In short: Before he was a mainstay in Indian cinema, Vishal Mishra faced early setbacks, including a disqualification from Indian Idol. Today, however, his melodies define modern soundtracks, moving from small-screen beginnings to composing for icons like Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Born in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, and educated in Lucknow, Vishal Mishra’s journey into the music industry was marked by both early mentorship and early failure. While he gained initial exposure through the DD National reality show Bharat ki Shaan season 3, his attempt to enter the mainstream via Indian Idol ended in disqualification. During these formative years, he received guidance from Lalit Pandit, a member of the renowned Jatin–Lalit composer duo. His early musical path was shaped by these formative experiences. He first appeared on the television programme Bharat ki Shaan season 3.

Mishra’s professional ascent began in earnest in 2016 when he made his composing debut with the Tamil film Devi. His versatility quickly became evident as he transitioned between languages and genres, working on projects ranging from the Marathi film FU: Friendship Unlimited to the 2017 soundtrack for Qarib Qarib Singlle. This period also saw him making his singing debut through the film Munna Michael.

His rise to widespread fame was cemented by the massive success of the song "Kaise Hua" from the film Kabir Singh. Since then, his portfolio has expanded to include high-profile collaborations with major stars. He has composed music for Salman Khan-produced projects like Notebook and Race 3, and has provided soundtracks for films featuring stars such as Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, and Akshay Kumar. His work continues to span diverse genres, from romantic melodies to biopics like Saand Ki Aankh. In 2020, he released the track Manjha featuring Aayush Sharma and Saiee Manjrekar. He also worked on the song Phir Muskurayega India for Akshay Kumar and Jackky Bhagnani.
