In short: Before he was a household name in Hindi cinema, Amaal Mallik was a teenager working behind the scenes. His journey from a piano-loving student to a multi-award-winning composer reveals a decade of meticulous apprenticeship and a remarkable knack for blending film soundtracks with independent hits.

Amaal Mallik’s career is defined by a rapid ascent through the technical ranks of the Indian music industry. Born on 16 June 1990, the son of music director Daboo Malik, Mallik began his musical training at age eight. While he pursued a formal education in commerce at Narsee Monjee College in Mumbai, his musical foundation was built through piano studies at Trinity College of Music and informal Indian classical training under his grandfather, Sardar Malik.

His professional trajectory began much earlier than his 2014 debut as a film composer for 'Jai Ho'. At just 15 years old, Mallik was already assisting composer Amar Mohile on soundtracks for films such as 'Sarkar' (2005) and 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' (2007). He later transitioned into producing and arranging music for his father, notably working on a 2009 remix of 'Mere Desh Ki Dharti' featuring Daler Mehndi.

Mallik’s versatility is evident in his ability to navigate both the massive machinery of Bollywood and the rising trend of independent singles. He achieved significant commercial success with the 2015 hit 'Sooraj Dooba Hain' and released several popular non-film singles that same year, including 'Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon'. His work on the 2016 soundtrack for 'M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story' further solidified his status.

By 2019, Mallik achieved a significant milestone, becoming the youngest composer to score for Amitabh Bachchan for the thriller 'Badla'. His decorated career includes six Mirchi Music awards, four IIFA awards, and two Filmfare awards. Beyond the studio, he has expanded into reality television, appearing as a judge on 'Sa Re Ga不上 Ma Pa L'il Champs' and as a contestant on 'Bigg Boss 19', where he finished as the fourth runner-up.
