How young digital ambassadors are bringing historic gardening archives to life

A visit to RHS Garden Wisley with our Digital Ambassadors | Digital Dig | The RHS · 3:01 · Video: RHS - Royal Horticultural Society · Watch at the source

In short: Six teenagers from the Museums Partnership Reading Youth Panel visited RHS Garden Wisley to explore historic nursery catalogues. As part of the Digital Dig project, these ambassadors are learning to blend digital storytelling with botanical heritage to share stories hidden in the RHS collection.

The Digital Dig project connects young people aged 15-18 with the Royal Horticultural Society's extensive archives. By working with the Hilltop Library at Wisley, these six ambassadors gained hands-on experience with nursery catalogues and learned the technical processes behind seed collection.

Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, this initiative provides specialist digital skills training. The participants use these tools to research and document local gardening history, turning static archival records into accessible online content.
