Crafting garden sculptures from cement and air-dried clay

How to make fun concrete chooks · 3:57 · Video: Gardening Australia · Watch at the source

In short: Transform simple household materials into whimsical concrete chickens for your garden. This guide walks you through a unique molding technique that uses plastic bags and rocks to create custom shapes.

This project demonstrates how to cast concrete figures by mixing one part cement with four parts sand and water. By spooning the mixture into a freezer bag and pressing it onto a rounded rock, you can create a curved base without complex molds.

After allowing the cement to set for 24 hours, you carve feathers and wings before applying a two-tone paint finish. The final details, including beaks and combs made from air-dried clay, are secured using a 2-part epoxy glue.
