How one young gardener is turning his passion into a career-defining mission
In short: Meet Jamie Butterworth, an RHS Ambassador who transitioned from a teenage gardening prodigy to a professional advocate for the next generation of horticulturists. This video explores his journey through the Royal Horticultural Society and his commitment to bringing gardening into secondary school classrooms.
Jamie Butterworth’s career began early, as he became a finalist in the BBC3 Young Gardener of the Year competition at age 16. He later graduated from the RHS Garden Wisley Diploma in Practical Horticulture with Distinction in 2015. His professional background includes serving as joint Show Plant Manager at Hortus Loci, where he cultivated plants for various RHS Flower Shows.
Beyond his technical work, Butterworth co-founded YoungHort in 2013 to encourage young people to pursue horticulture as a profession. Now serving as an RHS Ambassador, he focuses on engaging secondary school students, aligning with the Royal Horticultural Society's 1804 mission to inspire excellence in the science and art of gardening.
