Can children design a world-class garden? The RHS Chelsea Flower Show says yes.

The RHS No Adults Allowed Garden: Made by children, for children! | The RHS · 3:09 · Video: RHS - Royal Horticultural Society · Watch at the source

In short: For the first time in its history, the 2024 RHS Chelsea Flower Show features a garden designed entirely by children. Created by pupils from a London primary school, this immersive space prioritizes play and natural exploration, challenging traditional ideas about who gets to shape horticultural landscapes.

The RHS No Adults Allowed Garden was a collaborative project between students at Sulivan Primary School in Fulham and garden designer Harry Holding. The space features a fantastical landscape designed to encourage children to engage with nature through woodland, meadows, and wetlands filled with oversized bog plants.

The garden culminates in a sunken, water-based den, providing a private sanctuary for play and learning. By allowing children to scramble over boulders and interact with a natural stream, the project highlights the vital importance of giving young people direct access to nature. This initiative aligns with the Royal Horticultural Society's mission, established in 1804, to inspire passion and excellence in the practice of horticulture.
