Why urban trees are our most essential defense against a warming climate
In short: Trees offer critical services like shade and flood mitigation in our cities, yet they face increasing threats from climate change. Experts at Kew are racing against time to find solutions to protect these vital urban assets.
As global temperatures rise, the trees that sustain our urban environments are increasingly at risk. These organisms provide indispensable benefits, including habitat creation for wildlife and natural flood relief, making their survival a priority for environmental stability.
Scientists at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and their global partners are actively researching strategies to safeguard urban tree populations. This work is urgent, as the experts are operating against a tightening deadline to ensure these trees continue to provide essential services in a changing climate.
