In short: The seventh season of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine marks a period of significant transition. As teams and drivers rotate through the single-seater ranks, the grid is being reshaped by new entries, strategic departures, and a high-stakes battle for championship titles.

The 2025 season represents the fifth year following the merger with Formula Renault Eurocup, a move that brought Alpine as the engine supplier. Drivers compete in identical Tatuus FR-19 cars, powered by 1.8L turbocharged Nissan MR18 engines and fitted with Pirelli tyres. This technical consistency provides a level playing field for a diverse mix of professional and amateur drivers striving for upward mobility in motorsport.

The competitive landscape saw notable shifts in team lineups. While nine of the eleven teams from 2024 were pre-selected, the grid saw the departure of mainstay MP Motorsport and the all-female Iron Dames entry, the latter of which shifted focus to endurance racing. In their place, the championship welcomed CL Motorsport, an Italian-based Chinese team, and AKCEL GP, the first Asian team to enter the series.

Driver movement remains a defining characteristic of the series, serving as a vital stepping stone to FIA Formula 3. For instance, Prema Racing saw all three of its drivers graduate to F3, including 2024 champion Rafael Câmara. Meanwhile, the championship's competitive tension was highlighted by Prema's Freddie Slater, who secured the Drivers' Championship title at the penultimate race, and Van Amersfoort Racing's Dion Gowda, who clinched the Rookie Championship title at the same event.

The season's logistics also saw evolution, with the circuit lineup finalized on 2 October 2024. Notably, the championship opted to return to Misano for its opening round, marking the first time in the series' history that Mugello was excluded from the planned circuit list.
