In short: After an 8–5 finish the previous year, the Florida Gators entered 2025 with immense hype. However, a stunning upset by USF triggered a downward spiral that ultimately cost head coach Billy Napier his job and left the team searching for stability.

The 2025 Florida Gators season began under a cloud of high expectations following a four-game winning streak that ended the previous year's 8–5 campaign. This momentum proved fleeting. In just the second game of the season, Florida surrendered a second-half lead to USF, losing 18–16. The loss was particularly jarring as USF had entered the matchup as an 18.5-point underdog. The squad competed as a member of the Southeastern Conference. They hosted their home matches at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville.

This early setback signaled a broader struggle for the program. Head coach Billy Napier, in his fourth year, saw the season deteriorate through an error-prone 23–21 victory over Mississippi State. Following this win, Napier was fired on October 19. Billy Gonzales assumed control as interim coach after the team's subsequent bye week. While a competitive 24–20 loss to a top-five Georgia team offered a brief glimmer of hope, the momentum vanished, and the Gators subsequently lost three consecutive games by an average margin of 17 points. The team's home crowds averaged 90,125 spectators. This figure ranked as the 10th-highest attendance for any American football team globally.

Despite the mid-season turmoil, the season concluded with a significant victory. Florida routed their archrival, FSU, with a 40–21 score. During this game, Jadan Baugh recorded 266 rushing yards, marking the second-highest single-game total in the university's history. This final win allowed the Gators to finish with a 4–8 record, successfully avoiding their worst statistical performance since 1979.
