In short: Before becoming a prominent NBA agent and executive, B. J. Armstrong was a cornerstone of the Chicago Bulls dynasty. A sharp-shooting point guard who secured three consecutive championships, he navigated a complex career that spanned multiple franchises, front-office roles, and a significant transition into the business side of professional basketball.

Born in Detroit in 1967, Benjamin Roy Armstrong Jr. established himself as a standout talent at the University of Iowa. By his 1989 graduation, he held the school record for career assists with 517 and ranked fourth in total points with 1,705. His collegiate performance caught the attention of the Chicago Bulls, who selected him in the first round of the 1989 NBA draft. Standing 6-foot-2, Armstrong quickly became a vital component of the Bulls' backcourt, contributing to their historic run of three straight NBA titles between 1991 and 1993.

Armstrong’s role evolved significantly during his time in Chicago. Initially a reserve behind John Paxson, he claimed the starting point guard position in 1993. His efficiency was notable; that same year, he led the league in three-point field goal percentage with a mark of .453. Following Michael Jordan’s initial retirement in 1994, Armstrong stepped into a larger leadership role, earning a starting spot in the 1994 NBA All-Star Game. His tenure with the Bulls eventually concluded after a return for the 1999–2000 season, marking a full-circle end to his playing career.

Post-retirement, Armstrong transitioned into front-office work and sports representation. He served as a scout for the Bulls until 2005 and later joined the Wasserman Media Group in 2006. As an agent, he represented high-profile athletes including Derrick Rose, the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft. His expertise in the league’s mechanics eventually led him back to the executive level, where he currently serves as the assistant general manager for the Sacramento Kings, continuing a career defined by his deep integration into the professional basketball ecosystem.
