A soccer game where a heart condition dictates the strategy
In short: In a world of superhuman sports, one protagonist can't even run. Unmei Sasanami faces a physical ceiling due to congenital heart disease, forcing him to trade raw athleticism for elite tactical analysis. To win, he must orchestrate a team from the sidelines using pure intellect.
Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road marks a significant shift in the long-running sports RPG series by Level-5. Set 25 years after the original trilogy, the game introduces Unmei Sasanami as its central figure. Unlike previous protagonists who relied on physical prowess, Unmei is limited by a congenital heart disease contracted in his youth. This restriction transforms the narrative from a standard sports journey into a tactical puzzle; he must lead Nagumohara Junior High School—a school that had disbanded its soccer club years prior—by providing expert strategy to outplay physically superior opponents. The game features two distinct narratives. Story Mode follows Unmei’s rise through regional and national tournaments, culminating in a final match against Raimon Junior High. Here, the player faces a choice of teams but witnesses a clash of philosophies: Haru (the son of original protagonist Endou Mamoru), a "soccer monster" who initially lacked passion, versus Unmei's methodical tactics. The climax features Unmei’s special tactic, Tenkuu no Takt (Sky's Baton), which allows him to instantly swap player positions and dictate the flow of play. Chronicle Mode offers a different scope, set in the far future where humanity faces "Mind Eaters." It follows Victorio Arno as he travels through the series' history to assemble the strongest Eleven. This dual-narrative structure highlights the franchise's evolution from linear sports progression to complex world-building and historical exploration.
