In short: Since 1998, communist and workers' parties from across the globe have gathered annually to share experiences and issue joint declarations. While these meetings echo the Soviet-era conferences of the 20th century, they now operate through a modern, decentralized framework to address contemporary international issues and strengthen their collective political influence.

The International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (IMCWP) serves as a forum for Marxist-Leninist-led organizations to align their ideological and political views. Originating from an invitation by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), these annual conferences facilitate the exchange of perspectives on national and international challenges. The logistical backbone of this movement is the Working Group, a body of parties tasked with the preparation and organization of each gathering, ensuring continuity across diverse host nations.

Communication and documentation are central to the IMCWP's operations. The parties utilize SolidNet, a website operated by the KKE, to publish contributions and inform the public about their activities. Beyond these annual summits, the movement occasionally holds extraordinary meetings, such as the 2009 assembly in Damascus focused on Middle Eastern solidarity. In December 2009, the participating parties also established the International Communist Review, an annual publication available in English, Spanish, and Greek, which further disseminates their collective analysis.

The scope of these meetings is broad, covering themes from anti-imperialist struggles to the defense of socialism. For instance, the 22nd meeting in Havana in 2022 addressed NATO expansion, the conflict in Ukraine, and the rise of reactionary forces. The most recent gathering, the 24th IMCWP, took place in Havana in August 2026. Hosted by the Communist Party of Cuba, the event focused on the legacy of the Cuban Revolution and the centenary of Fidel Castro's birth. During this meeting, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel reaffirmed the validity of Marxism-Leninism, even as the nation navigates ongoing economic reforms.
