In short: Discover how archaeological excavations in remote caves are reshaping our understanding of human prehistory in Southeast Asia. This video explores the Middle Mekong Archaeological Project and its mission to map the lives of early inhabitants in an under-studied region.

Since 2007, the Middle Mekong Archaeological Project (MMAP) has conducted test excavations at various cave and rockshelter sites in northern Laos. These efforts aim to provide a clearer picture of human prehistory in a region that has historically lacked extensive archaeological study.

During the 2010 season, the team focused on the Tham An Mah cave near Ban Xieng Mouk. The excavations there yielded significant Iron Age discoveries, offering critical data points for understanding the cultural and technological developments of early populations in the Mekong region.
