From Fort Wayne to Noblesville: The evolution of a basketball dynasty
In short: A professional basketball franchise is undergoing a total metamorphosis. After nearly two decades of identity shifts—from the Fort Wayne Mad Ants to the Indiana Mad Ants—the team has officially rebranded as the Noblesville Boom, carrying a legacy of championship glory into a new era.
The franchise's history is defined by periods of extreme dominance and significant relocation. Originally established in Fort Wayne in 2007, the team operated as the Mad Ants for sixteen years. During the 2013–14 season, the squad achieved a historic feat, finishing with a 34–16 record and sweeping the Santa Cruz Warriors to claim their first and only championship. This run made them only the third team in league history to go undefeated in the playoffs.
Ownership and identity have shifted alongside geography. In September 2015, Pacers Sports & Entertainment purchased the franchise, transitioning it from an independent entity with as many as 14 NBA affiliates to a dedicated one-to-one affiliate for the Indiana Pacers. This shift was accompanied by a 2017 rebrand to match the Pacers' navy, gold, and gray color scheme.
The most recent transformation began in May 2023, when the team moved to Indianapolis as the Indiana Mad Ants. However, following the announcement of the new Noblesville Event Center, the franchise officially rebranded as the Noblesville Boom on April 16, 2025. The new identity—featuring navy, cyan, gold, and white—pays homage to the legendary Pacers coach Bobby "Slick" Leonard and his iconic "Boom, Baby!" catchphrase.
As the team settles into the Riverview Health Arena at Innovation Mile, it carries a decorated roster of alumni, including Khris Middleton and Oscar Tshiebwe. While the team has faced recent challenges, including a 16–20 record in the 2025–26 season, the new branding aims to reflect the energy and rapid growth of the Noblesville community.
