How a strategy game brings the dynasties of antiquity to life

In this interview, creators Soren and Leyla Johnson discuss Old World, a 4X strategy game from Mohawk Games. Discover how the game uses historical events and a unique dynastic mechanic to simulate the rise and fall of ancient empires.

Unlike many 4X titles, Old World focuses on the continuity of a lineage. Players do not just manage a nation, but a dynasty; as your chosen leader ages and eventually dies, you must step into the role of their heir to ensure the empire's survival.

The game features seven leaders from various ancient nations, including Hatshepsut of Egypt, Cyrus the Great of Persia, and Philip II of Macedon. By incorporating events inspired by real history, the developers at Mohawk Games aim to recreate the atmosphere of the ancient world through expansion, warfare, and the construction of ancient sites.
