In short: Before it was Celta Fortuna, this Vigo-based side was a modest club known as Turista Sport Club. While reserve teams in Spain face unique structural barriers to glory, the history of this club is a journey of mergers, name changes, and a recent climb through the divisions.

Founded in 1927 as Turista Sport Club, the team's identity has undergone several transformations. A union with Gran Peña FC was discussed during the late 1980s, yet Celta de Vigo finished absorbing the side in 1989. This led to the name Celta Turista. By 1995, following new regulations from the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the club was renamed Celta de Vigo B.

The club's recent nomenclature is a nod to its heritage. In March 2023, the name was changed to Celta Fortuna to honor Real Fortuna FC, a predecessor of the current Celta de Vigo. This rebranding reflects a deep connection to the footballing roots of the Galicia region.

Operating as a reserve team in Spain involves specific regulatory constraints. Unlike other systems, Spanish reserve teams compete within the same league pyramid as their senior counterparts, but they are strictly prohibited from playing in the same division. As long as Celta Vigo remains in La Liga, Celta Fortuna is ineligible for promotion to the top flight and cannot compete in the Copa del Rey. Furthermore, player movement between the squads is restricted to under-23 players, or those under 25 holding professional contracts.

The club's competitive history is marked by periods of fluctuation. After finishing first in the fifth-tier Regional Preferente during the 1988–89 season, the club reached the third division in 1992–93. Following several periods within the Tercera División, such as 1957–58 and 1999–2001, the team reached a major goal by earning Segunda División status following the 2025–26 campaign.
