Researchers reveal how the edges of our universe are geometrically linked
In short: Physicists studying Minkowski spacetime have found that the distant boundaries of the universe can be described using specific geometric structures. By analyzing the infinite edges of flat spacetime, the researchers identified how different types of spatial and temporal infinities are organized as orbits of the Poincaré group.
The study uses mathematical modeling to show that the geometry of asymptotic infinities can be represented as homogeneous spaces. The researchers also demonstrated that Minkowski spacetime can be reconstructed from these boundary geometries by mapping points to specific lightcone cuts. However, the findings are primarily theoretical and focused on the mathematical properties of flat spacetime.
Why it matters: This mathematical framework provides a way to understand the structure of the universe's boundaries and reconstruct spacetime itself.
