In short: Before coaching at the highest levels of college football, Tee Martin achieved something nearly impossible on the field. In 1998, he set unprecedented NCAA records for precision, leading the Tennessee Volunteers to their first national championship in nearly half a century through a display of nearly perfect passing.

During the 1998 season, Tee Martin orchestrated one of the most efficient offensive performances in college football history. While playing for the Tennessee Volunteers under head coach Phillip Fulmer, Martin achieved a remarkable 95.8% completion percentage in a single game, surpassing the previous single-game record of 92.6% held by UCLA's Rick Neuheisel since 1983. His precision was not a one-off occurrence; he set an NCAA record for consecutive completions across multiple games, successfully completing 24 straight passes by combining his final pass against Alabama with his first 23 against South Carolina.

This period of dominance helped propel the Volunteers to a 13–0 record and a victory in the Fiesta Bowl against Florida State. This win secured the school's first NCAA Division I-A national championship since 1951. During his tenure as a starter, Martin helped the Vols maintain a strong record against major conference opponents, going 11–1 against six major conference foes, including a 2–0 record against Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Vanderbilt.

Following his achievements on the pitch, the Steelers drafted Martin during the 2000 NFL draft's fifth round. His professional career spanned six seasons across the NFL and the Canadian Football League (CFL), including stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Following his playing days, Martin transitioned into a prolific coaching career, serving in various roles from passing game coordinator to offensive coordinator at institutions such as USC, Kentucky, and the Baltimore Ravens. He currently serves as an offensive analyst for LSU.
