In short: Nicknamed "Muscle Hamster" for his unique blend of strength and small stature, Doug Martin defied expectations. From a single scholarship offer at Boise State to a historic rookie season in the NFL, his career was defined by explosive plays that rewrote the record books.

Doug Martin's ascent began at Boise State University, where he played from 2007 to 2011. Despite interest from major programs like California and Oregon State, he committed to the Broncos on December 14, 2006, after Boise State became the only Division I program to offer him a scholarship. During his collegiate tenure, he became a vital part of the rushing attack, finishing his career with 3,431 yards and 43 rushing touchdowns, ranking third in school history for touchdowns.

Entering the NFL in 2012, Martin was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round with the 31st overall pick. His rookie campaign was nothing short of historic. During one match versus the Oakland Raiders, he turned into the inaugural NFL athlete to achieve touchdown runs exceeding 70, 45, and 65 yards within one game. He also became only the second player in league history to rush for over 250 yards and four touchdowns in a single game, finishing that specific game with exactly 251 yards.

Martin's career was marked by both peak performance and significant setbacks. He earned two Pro Bowl selections (2012 and 2016) and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2015, a season where he rushed for 1,402 yards. However, injuries and a four-game suspension in 2016 for violating the NFL substance abuse policy—following a positive test for Adderall—marked a turning point. After being released by the Buccaneers in 2018, he played his final professional season with the Oakland Raiders.
