While some roles like gladiators were unique to their era, many of the highest-paying professions in ancient Rome shared surprising similarities with the high-earning careers we recognize in the modern world.
The Roman economy supported a variety of high-status professions. Some of the most lucrative roles were remarkably similar to contemporary occupations, such as lawyers, doctors, and famous actors. Other high-paying positions were more distinct to the period, including professional charioteers and exhibition gladiators.
