The only inmates to ever successfully escape the infamous Alcatraz federal prison.
In short: Alcatraz was designed to be inescapable, housing America's most dangerous criminals. Yet, three men managed to pull off the impossible. This video details the story of the only prisoners to ever successfully flee the island, contrasting their feat with the prison's most notorious residents.
Located a mile off the San Francisco coastline, Alcatraz held high-profile figures like Al Capone, Robert Stroud, and Alvin 'Creepy' Karpis. Despite the prison's reputation for security, it was not these famous names who achieved the only successful escape in its history.
The escapees were Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin. A fourth man, Allen West, collaborated on the plan but failed to complete his part of the attempt. The escape remains a singular event in the prison's timeline.
