Why did the Red Pyramid abandon the promise of ultimate architectural security?

The Red Pyramid's strange inner sanctum · 16:19 · Video: History for GRANITE · Watch at the source

In short: The Red Pyramid of Dahshur is widely considered the final resting place of Pharaoh Sneferu. While its exterior suggests a fortress-like design, a deeper look reveals an incomplete complex and a puzzling upper chamber that challenges our understanding of ancient Egyptian defensive engineering.

Though the Red Pyramid appears to follow traditional mastaba defensive principles, it ultimately fails to achieve the level of security one might expect from such a massive monument. The structure remains unfinished, and the presence of a 'hidden' upper chamber raises questions about the original intent behind its internal layout.

Comparatively, the nearby Bent Pyramid features a longer descending corridor than the Red Pyramid. However, because the Bent Pyramid suffered structural fractures, its builders were unable to seal it as effectively as they might have intended.
