Searching for the footprints of Rome's lost Ninth Legion
In short: Historian Tristan Hughes and archaeologist Simon Elliot trace the trail of the vanished 9th Legion. This video explores Roman foundations in York and investigates whether a hidden marching camp in the Yorkshire countryside belongs to these legendary soldiers.
The investigation follows the physical remnants of the 9th Legion through Northern England. The journey begins at the site of a Roman bathhouse in York, a structure originally built by the legion's soldiers. From there, the team examines a Roman marching camp concealed within the Yorkshire landscape to determine if it serves as evidence of the legion's presence and eventual disappearance.
