How a PID controller corrects errors
In short: A PID controller measures the error to its setpoint and corrects it, again and again.
1. The system has a desired value, such as the speed chosen for cruise control. 2. A sensor measures the actual value. 3. The error is the difference between the setpoint and the measured value. 4. The controller corrects with proportional, integral and derivative terms of the error. 5. The correction changes the output and the measured value, and the loop repeats.
