How reinforcement learning works

In short: An agent acts, the environment responds with a new state and a reward, and the agent learns to earn more.

1. A reinforcement learning agent chooses actions in an environment. 2. The agent takes an action in its environment. 3. The environment changes and a new state is fed back to the agent. 4. A reward, a number, tells the agent how good the result of its action was. 5. Over time the agent learns to choose actions that maximise its reward.
