A man's obsession with a dead ancestor's vision led to tragedy
In short: This video explores the unsettling life of Carl Tanzler, a man who became obsessed with finding a woman from a ghostly visitation. It is a haunting look at how personal mythology can drive a person toward extreme behavior.
Born in Dresden in 1877, Carl Tanzler claimed aristocratic lineage and lived a life defined by his own imagination. As a child, he believed he was visited by the spirit of a long-deceased ancestor, Countess Anna Constantina von Cosel.
The Countess allegedly provided Tanzler with a vision of his one true love: a beautiful woman with dark hair. This supernatural encounter shaped his lifelong quest to find this specific person, leading to a narrative that blends personal delusion with historical tragedy.
