Why African art needs more fun and less devastation
In short: TED Fellow Wanuri Kahiu challenges the narrow, heavy narratives of war and poverty often associated with Africa, proposing a vibrant new way to see the continent through art.
Kahiu introduces the concept of 'AfroBubbleGum'—a movement of African art that is lighthearted, vibrant, and intentionally without a political agenda. The video explores why it is essential to embrace 'unserious' art to capture the full spectrum of human experience and move beyond one-dimensional stories of struggle.
