The logic of the crowd: solving the 2/3rds average game
In short: Can you outthink a crowd? This video explores a classic game theory puzzle that tests your ability to predict how others will reason under conditions of common knowledge.
The challenge asks participants to choose a whole number between 0 and 100. The winner is the person whose guess is closest to two-thirds of the average of every guess submitted. For instance, if the group average is 60, the winning number is 40.
The puzzle relies on "common knowledge," where every player knows the rules, knows that everyone else knows the rules, and knows that everyone knows that everyone knows. This creates a recursive loop of logic that reveals how humans navigate collective behavior and strategic thinking.
