In short: Al Capone is synonymous with his nickname Scarface, but the origin of the moniker is often misunderstood. This video explores the life of the infamous gangster, tracing his path from his rise in the criminal underworld to his eventual downfall and death.

Alphonse Gabriel Capone became a household name in the early 20th century, but his criminal career eventually collided with federal law. In June 1931, the FBI prepared to arrest Capone for tax evasion, a case they had spent three years building. By October 1931, he was convicted on five counts of tax evasion covering the years 1924 to 1929, including two felonies.

Sentenced to eleven years in federal prison, Capone served seven years before his release in 1939. His later years were marked by severe health decline, specifically syphilis, which left him with the mental capacity of a twelve-year-old according to FBI reports. Capone died in 1947 at his home on Palm Island at the age of 48.
