Are dolphins truly the second smartest species on Earth?
In short: While dolphins are widely considered among the most intelligent animals, their cognitive abilities are remarkably complex. This video explores the biological metrics of their intelligence and examines what we actually know about their mental capacity.
The video examines the encephalization quotient of dolphins, a metric that compares brain size to body size. This specific measurement places dolphins second only to humans in terms of relative brain size.
Led by educator Lori Marino, the lesson investigates the incredible facts surrounding dolphin intelligence and provides context for how their cognitive abilities compare to other species on Earth.
