Can a former municipal golf course become the UK's largest urban rewilding project?
In short: On the outskirts of Derby, a former golf course is being transformed into a massive urban rewilding site. This project demonstrates how degraded land can be restored to nature while fostering community involvement, offering a practical look at how biodiversity initiatives function within local environments.
The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust is spearheading this effort as part of a broader mission to restore fragmented habitats throughout the region. By working with various partners, the trust aims to connect local residents with the nature found on their own doorsteps, moving from the peaks down to urban streets.
This initiative is part of a series of projects across Derbyshire exploring the practical application of nature restoration. The effort highlights the importance of community engagement in shaping land use and improving regional biodiversity.
