How energy flows through the delicate layers of an ecosystem
In short: This video explores the mechanics of trophic pyramids, explaining how energy moves from sunlight to consumers and why small changes can disrupt the entire biological chain.
A trophic pyramid illustrates the transfer of energy between primary producers, consumers, and decomposers. In these systems, energy from the sun is stored as biomass, but the process is highly inefficient: only about 10% of energy is transferred from one trophic level to the next.
Because of this limited transfer, ecosystems are deeply interconnected. External changes, such as a reduction in sunlight or the use of pesticides, can impact the entire pyramid and disrupt the essential cycling of energy.
