Why you can pull a constant out of an integral
In short: Understanding how scaling affects area is fundamental to calculus. This video uses visual graphing to demonstrate the logic behind pulling constants out of definite integrals.
The lesson explores the geometric reasoning for why multiplying a function by a constant scales its total area proportionally. By visualizing these changes on a graph, students can see that if every output value is multiplied by a factor, the resulting area under the curve increases by that same factor.
Taught by Bill Scott of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, the content aligns with Khan Academy's AP Calculus AB curriculum. It provides a conceptual bridge between basic algebraic scaling and formal integration rules.
