Can a twelve-year-old's warning change the course of global climate policy?
In short: In this TED talk, Severn Cullis-Suzuki reflects on her 1992 address to the UN's Earth Summit. She explores why global leaders failed to prioritize ecological preservation over economic growth and issues a new warning inspired by the COVID-19 crisis.
Speaking at the UN's Earth Summit nearly 30 years ago, Severn Cullis-Suzuki urged world leaders to prevent ecological disaster. While some attendees responded with radical action, much of the world continued to prioritize politics and economic growth.
Drawing lessons from the COVID-19 crisis, Cullis-Suzuki argues that humanity must ensure its climate actions finally align with its stated intentions.
