How art and activism can transform the spaces we inhabit
In short: Matthew Mazzotta explores how public art can do more than decorate; it can reignite a sense of purpose and possibility in communities. This talk reveals how the built environment can be redesigned to spark collective conversation and social engagement.
By blending urbanism, activism, and art, Mazzotta tackles neglected problems within local communities. By collaborating with local residents, he creates unique public spaces that facilitate intimate and radical exchanges. His portfolio spans traveling dining events with climate scientists and chefs, alongside active systems turning energy from dog waste.
The work highlights the potential of the built environment to shape human relationships. Projects range from buildings that morph main streets into cinemas to works refreshing areas using houses, giant flamingos, and clouds.
