Understanding the realities of prostate and testicular cancer

Prostate and Testicular Cancer - Chris Whitty · 53:15 · Video: Gresham College · Watch at the source

In short: In this Gresham College lecture, Professor Sir Christopher Whitty examines the landscape of male-specific cancers, discussing the prevalence of prostate cancer and the prognosis for testicular cancer.

The lecture explores the distinction between prostate cancer, which accounts for approximately one quarter of all male cancer diagnoses in the UK, and the rarer but more frequent occurrence of testicular cancer in early life. Whitty notes that while neither cancer is preventable, advancements in prostate cancer treatment now allow doctors to safely avoid treating many patients. Furthermore, the outlook for those diagnosed with testicular cancer is very good if the disease is caught early.

Recorded on 15 January 2020, the presentation draws on the expertise of Professor Whitty, a clinician and former Gresham Professor of Physic who has served in several high-level advisory roles, including Chief Medical Officer for England.
